On Arenales del Sol beach, two Caretta caretta turtles have laid 200 eggs in a month. The first turtle laid more than 100 eggs in mid-June, taking advantage of the nighttime tranquility. The second turtle recently laid 117 eggs, about twenty of which were transferred to the Oceanogràfic of Valencia to ensure optimal hatching conditions. In comparison, the remaining 97 eggs stayed in the custody area on the beach. Researchers and volunteers protect the nests 24 hours a day until the eggs hatch. This event, rare on public beaches, demonstrates how correct and effective awareness campaigns are important for the conservation efforts of vulnerable species like the Caretta caretta sea turtle.
