Hot spot areas will be identified
byintegrating spatial data from three Modules: (i) position of captured turtles communicated by
fishers(also through a specific App), (ii) aerial surveys with drones, (iii) remote tracking. App and
tracking tags have been developed by LIFE EUROTURTLES. The resulting hot spot area maps will
be provided to fishers, who will sign a MoU to avoid the hot spot areas i f alternative areas offer
equivalent catch of target species. This Action will be carried out in all countries, in areas
previously identified as key foraging grounds frequented by high numbers of sea turtles and where
turtles are subjected to a high anthr opogenic mortality due to fishery interaction, including two
areas in Albania and Turkey also frequented by Chelonia mydas*.
