(all countries, 37 po rts) by providing
fishermen with information about the sea turtle mortality induced by specific fishing gears and the
best practices they can adopt on board in order to dramatically reduce the mortality of sea turtles
afterrelease. One of the current best practices (for trawlers) has recently been questioned by the
discovery of gas embolism and needs to be better investigated through a survivorship study and
adjusted. This will be done in Italy and implemented in this project and in LIFE EUROTURTLES.
Target fishing gears and areas have already been identified.
